Are You Breathing?

Is the question, "Are You Breathing?" simply another way of asking, "Are You A Christian?"

Well, YES and NO. I suppose that depends on the definition of "Christian".

Just what do you mean by "Christian"? Doesn't that mean joining a Church, putting a little fish thing on your car and telling everybody else what they "shall and shall not do"? Doesn't that mean pointing a finger at others and telling them they're going to hell if they don't get their act together?

Well, true Christianity has only one message...LIFE!

Let me share this from a fresh perspective without some of the same old catch-phrases we've all become so familiar with.

Hell is a reality, but people won't go there because they were really bad or miss out on it if they were really good. Revelation 20:15 says that "...whosoever was not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire."

OK, that's not cool. So don't go there.

In Genesis 2:7, God breathed the breath of life into man, and he became a living, breathing being. Man needs to breathe, both physically and spiritually. Man can't live by bread alone, but by the inspired or breathed Word of the Living God.

When man fell in sin, he stopped breathing and died spiritually. Man still has his physical life and sustains it by bread. But the spiritual life, both given and sustained by God, was gone. So now all of us are born with this sinful nature or spiritual death working in us. That's why we do things that are sinful against God.

God can't just forgive us for, or overlook our spiritual death. If we're dead, he only has two options. As a last resort, He will have to bury us if we continue as we are. That's where the "hell" thing comes in. But that's not His desire for us.

God wants us to live. When Jesus said that we must be 'born again', He was speaking of our spiritual birth. It is the starting place for us from which He will make all things new again. Yes, He forgives us for our sinful behaviors, that's a part of the second option. The reason Jesus came was to give us new LIFE and set us free from our past!

The inspired Word of the Living God will speak LIFE to us. If we haven't been born again, God's Word will seek us, it will call to us and try to resurrect what was dead within us. It is the same Breath Of Life from Genesis 2:7, quickening our spirits to life.

Once we become born again, the same Word of God becomes our daily bread. It sustains and renews us from the inside out. It teaches and leads us in all our ways.

Sometimes we get distracted. Situations and circumstances can seem overwhelming, and it seems like our problems consume our full attention. It can be easy to forget that you've got to breathe.

That's why we've started this simple outreach...Remember, you've got to breathe!

So I ask, Are You Breathing?

If you've never been born again, please don't put it off...do it now!

If the religiosity of others has turned you off, listen, life isn't about religion. Life is a personal relationship with your Creator.

God loves you so much that He sent His only Son to die for you. Jesus freely gave His life, suffering the wrath of God for our disobedience. A greater love doesn't exist than to die for those who hate you, and Jesus showed us that love.

Jesus didn't die so we could build stained glass cathedrals, and He wasn't raised from the dead to start a new religion. He did it because He loves us and He wants us to be His own. He paid the price to redeem us from our sin and to set us free. He did it so that we could have LIFE...so that we could Breathe again!

Just give Him your life. Let Him be your Lord, and He will be your Savoiur, too!

'Salvation that comes from trusting Christ - which is the message we preach - is already within easy reach. In fact, the Scriptures say, "The message is close at hand; it is on your lips and in your heart." For if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved. As the Scriptures tell us, "Anyone who believes in Him will not be disappointed."' Romans 10:8-11 NLT

What's the next step? You need to pray. Prayer is a converstaion with God. It isn't a set of magic words, its just us sharing our hearts with God. So when you're ready to share what's on your heart with God, here's a pretty good guideline of what to say...

"Heavenly Father,

I admit that I am a sinner, have mercy on me. I have done many things that don’t please you. I have lived my life for myself. I am sorry and I ask you to forgive me. I turn away from my past to a future in You.

Jesus, I believe that you died on the cross for me, to save me and that the Father raised you from the dead. You did what I could not do for myself.

I come to you now and ask you to take control of my life, I give it to you. And I will follow You all the days of my life."

If you prayed that prayer, guess what...now you can breathe!
